the fifth nation promo shot

my band the fifth nation is playing some shows in September. Have a look at our flyer with all the details. Would love to see you all there. The balmain one is a bit out of the way, but the Newtown one is going to be a blast!

We are recording at the moment and should have a CD with 2 songs on it to show people in a few weeks. Pretty excited. I did my guitar parts last night and they came out pretty clean. I put my amp in a room and cranked it – the tubes sound best like that. I love it when my amp is loud. You can just give the guitar a crack, stand about 2 metres away, and you really get to feel it come back at you. Too much fun.

escape ad preview

I went to a graphic design college in 2000 and one of our assignments in the topic of ‘branding’ was to compare two different products that are aimed at two different demographic of people. We then had to look at the design used on the packaging and then swap them.

I chose big red chewing gum and Calvin Klein’s Escape. The video above was an example of how ‘Calvin Klein’s Escape’ may be marketed to the demographic of people that would buy ‘big red’. Does that make sense? I hope so. Anyway, I made this with benny hudson and michael thoms. Michael is the Nanna, Ben did the editing. We don’t have permission from Ratcat to use this song, but it is probably going to get more use on this website than it has in the past 10 years on radio. hope you enjoy and maybe get a laugh … even if it is just at how lame it is.

the three d’s

In my family I have the 3 d’s. (starting from left) Derek, Darren, and Dad. My two brothers and my father Richard. Every year we play this certain golf day – this was taken last year. Usually they aren’t too keen to pose, but this year they came to the party!

3d's

Derek Then Derek was in the mood for a portriat of his own. I think this came out really nice – he is really professional to work with; really diverse and fluid.

I highly recommend him.

when I went to melbourne …

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

… i had some fun – my camera was there to prove it. I was only briefly there with my band ‘the fifth nation’, but i got a taste of Melbourne and I loved it. I took some photos while I was there and a few turned out alright. Below is Dave Powys from ‘Sounds Like Chicken’. He played some songs by himself at our gig – I really liked them. Plus, he was nice to me and remembered my name so … thanks Dave.
I like this photo cause it really captures the mood of the place and also, I reckon, the mood of his songs.

Dave Powys

On the second day we were in melbourne, another Dave (not one pictured above) took us around the town. We came across this little alley where they had obviously let some street artist go mental. It was great. I took some shots – they don’t really capture how intricate it all was but I guess they give you an idea. I dig street art when it is done well (tags and stuff like that can be on its way). They did something like this in Sydney a few years ago, but all over parts of sydney city. so rad. Anyway, click on some of the shots below to check them out.
