MGMT - Oracular Spectacular Black Kids - Partie Traumatic Kings of Leon - Only By The Night

MGMT write pretty amazing songs. It has taken me a while to get into it, but I am diggin it now.

After all the fun with ‘Crazy Days in Tokyo’ I thought I would get into some electro-synth keyboard sounds. Black Kids delivers just that. Only way to really enjoy the album is to follow one rule: when the girls voice annoys you, skip the track.

Kings Of Leon have changed a fair bit and this is the first album I have enjoyed since Youth and Young Manhood. The song ‘Sex on Fire‘ is a bit worrisome though – sounds like somethings wrong … perhaps an inflammation or a rash. Definitely something to talk to you GP about.

Submarine Sebastian

Last week I was lucky enough to fly up to Brisbane, spend some time with Derek, Jac and Sebastian as well as meet Mark Driscoll. ‘Meet’ in the loose sense of the word, but still meet. Derek organised an event in Brisbane for him to speak at so I went along. A really great night – an amazing speaker with such clear and convicting thoughts.

After the event I hung out for a few days and hang out with Sebastian. I took these photos when we were down at the park one day at Portside.

Sydney Apple Store

Darren and I went into the new Sydney Apple Store the other day. It is an impressive shop – beautiful glass stairs, heaps of windows … mum would go crazy if she had to clean it.

Paul on the Ropes

Laura on the Ropes Water round the Huskisson Wharf

Laura and I made our way to Vincentia for a few days last week. It is a great place to wake up for your birthday.

We went down to Huskisson one day and found this great playground with a massive climbing rope. I said to Laura “Hold my bag I am going on …” and Laura retorts “Hold your own bag!” and bolts to the ropes … the cheek of this one.

sign of a good school

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

For some reason I read a lot of signs. I know that sounds weird but hear me out. If a school has a sign out front where they can put up their own message, I always read it – and churches [but don't get me started on church slogans ... saaaad].

I saw one today that said “Value of the Month – Freedom”. Like ‘Freedom’ is ‘Employee of the Month for May’. “Congratulations Freedom! You trumped ‘Justice’ and ‘Respect’ this time. Better luck in June ‘Racial Equality’.” I thought that was funny … but I don’t think that was their inttention.

This other school near me always has the best things on their notice board. Hardly any of them are administrative. The latest one (which isn’t the best) is “A good pun is it’s own reword”. Love it. More power to you.

I am going to post some more in the comments below when they change it.
